I was laid off from my job as a photojournalist with Sun-Times Media on Thursday, so I thought I would do a happy comic for a change. To read about the layoffs, click here or here.
Champagne wishes and caviar dreams to the world’s greatest unicorn/garden fairy/crippled pet/mafiosa leader!!! Your inspiring work will lead you to better horizons soon. Bless you.
Wow, I was upset when I read about it the day before. Now that I know that my favourite webcomic’s artist is affected by it as well, I’m even more upset!
Honestly, I love the occasional happy comic. It’s uplifting, because even though Buni’s life is so abysmal, sometimes, just sometimes, his eternal optimism can work out for the best.
That said, sorry to hear about your job. I’m sure you’ll find a new one, so chin up and keep smiling!
Ryan, I think we’re all sorry for what happened to you and your co-workers. Those companies seriously have some problems regarding, well, mental health. Nonetheless you can count on us.
Buni’s misfortune never fails to make me smile, but I am saddened to see it befall his creator. May you and your colleagues find new opportunities soon!
I can’t believe the Sun Times thinks that anyone with an iPhone can replace a real photographer! Insane!!! Maybe anybody who has played “Monopoly” can then replace the management over there too, while they are at it making cuts like that.
Man that sucks. 🙁 People will always want photographs and it takes a real photographer to capture the news and emotion. A video can show emotion but seeing it as a still brings it to life.
…well, that really is unfortunate, Ryan…to think that the media are now so shortsighted as to believe that random acts of availability can replace the results of someone with skill and vision…insane…
…however, just as Buni shines thru with his invincible optimism, perhaps this is a good time to pursue a greater outlet for your work here…no secret how well C&H are faring in the efforts to increase audience…I think Buni deserves to be seen by many more people…
…and as one of the so-well-illustrated large burly biker community, I express my gratitude for your depiction of us as people easily prone to accepting a nudge toward optimism and joy…it really is all about the little things…
Ryan: the Chinese use the same word for “Crisis” that they use for “Opportunity”….
Ask anyone who is older than you (and who has awesome talent like you) and they will all tell you the same thing: their lives and careers bloomed after they were forced (i.e. fired, dismissed, laid off) to take the bull by the horns and ‘make it work’.
In ten years time, you will be thanking God that you were laid off and weren’t held back any longer.
I look forward to seeing your comics syndicated around the World.
Yeppers: I think that you are *that* good.
Well hopefully you’ll be able to support yourself solely through Buni one day. I hope you found a job you enjoy. The effect Buni has in his world is a mirror of the one he has on the real world. 🙂
That sucks :[
Best of luck finding a new job!
Shouldn’t be a problem with the awesome Buni on your resume..
Well Buni has that affect on people.
Sorry to hear that. But thank you for keeping Buni. It gives smiles to a lot of people around the world. Best regards from Portugal.

I was shocked when I read it. Even more shocked when I found you were one of them.
Do you happen to know Scott Strazzante at the Chicago Tribune?
I know the name from his photos, but I don’t personally know him.

You make my days better with your Buni comics and I really hope you’ll find an other job soon. May the Force be with you 😉
