Introduction
For new readers, here’s a little background on my comic strip Buni (pronounced like “bunny”). An idea for a visually cute – yet twisted and sad – comic had been rolling around in my mind for a few years. What emerged was a snaggletoothed cartoon bunny which I started publishing online in 2010.
Buni inhabits a world populated by teddy bears. Don’t ask me why. It just kind of happened that way. I also didn’t plan to create a dialogue-free pantomime comic. The first comics didn’t have words in them, so I made the next ones wordless too. Then it became Buni’s thing.
I added a one-sided love story with a neighbor girl who obviously has a boyfriend and is uninterested in Buni. Eventually Buni’s cynical father, BuniDad, moved in with him to counter Buni’s optimism. Then Dogi (AKA BuniDog) joined the comic. He’s based on a real live dog I saw late one night strolling the street in a makeshift wheelchair.
Buni is syndicated through Universal Uclick on GoComics and currently runs in a couple newspapers and several online sites, including Webtoon. Buni was also one of the 10 finalists in the Comic Strip Superstar contest hosted by Universal Press Syndicate and Amazon.com.
Buni updates on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Buni
A naive optimist with terrible luck, Buni is constantly being crushed by the real world. The girl he loves, loves someone else. And his best intentions never seem to work. Yet he wakes up each day, hoping for the best.
BuniDad
Buni’s father is the opposite of Buni. He’s cynical. Never shaves. And smokes, even when he eats and sleeps. He’s also obsessed with bacon and turning anything he can into an edible meat.
Dogi
Despite using a wheelchair, Dogi manages to protect Buni, impress the ladies and save the world like no other dog can.
BuniGirl
She is the object of all of Buni’s desires, even though she clearly has a boyfriend and is uninterested in Buni.

Just discovered your awesome comic strip, you sir, have a great sense of humor, keep the funny coming!!
I so enjoy BUNI and was hoping that someday real soon now in the near distant future you finally print a collection book of your work. I’m sure it would be a big seller.
Nice…nuff said.
Just discovered this comic – really nice work! Poor Buni!
Just discovered your site from my friend who posted one of your strips… Great Stuff. I only have a few strips in my own comics where I can get across a joke with no dialogue, so super big kudos on this really sharp work. Cheers.
so deep…
Encontré tus comics por mera fortuna.
Están increibles! Sigue así!
Buni is awesome and fun comic to read… 🙂
want book!
you guys should have a wikipedia page.
Feel free to write a Wikipedia entry. That would be great. Thanks.
I really love this comic.
@Webmaster: Check the favicon.ico – it seems to be broken.
No se so te acuerdas de mi, estoy compartiendo tu tira en subcultura. es te dejo el link para que veas como va tu webcomic en esa pagina http://buni.subcultura.es/
All these Christopher Columbuses think they discovered your comic. Its always been here lol.
Jokes aside, I think your comic is great!
I started yesterday night and today I’ve finished reading all the comics and I want more. Buni is simply AMAZING!!!
You have a wonderful comic here it’s become one of my favorites, I’m surprised it’s not more well known. Although it usually does take a comic awhile to become famous, hopefully it will be someday.
Where is BuniMum? Will there ever be a strip with her?
I found her!

I discovered Buni yesterday, and in one day I read all the strips. Wonderful!
I discovered Buni a few years ago. It is my absolute favorite comic. You should win a prize (as shown at top) every year. Buni is the most inventive comic I’ve ever read!
This is one of the very few comics I read and enjoy online. Thanks. But why has the comic suddenly become so *HUGE*? This is not needed and makes it rather tedious to view, being forced to scroll for a simple four-frame strip.
I made the comics bigger to be easier to read on a phone. I’m still testing it to see if I’ll keep them vertical or go back to horizontal. Thanks for reading.
It was great meeting you at the Cartoon Festival of Kenosha Ryan! Love your work.
Ok I binged on all the Buni episodes while flying from Glasgow–>London–>Guangzhou–>Brisbane…. now there’s none left, life has no meaning….
Epic.
I love the comics, Buni’s expressions cheer me up and inspire even though he has a rough life. Please keep up the amazing work. Question though, how old it Buni?
Hi Ryan, I also saw the user that asked about the wiki page a few years ago, and its still not created. I can create one
Thank you for reading Buni. I’m not sure of his exact age, but I’d guess he’s a young adult in his early 20s, or possibly late teens. If you’d like to create a Wikipedia page, great. Thanks.
Hello, Ryan~
I’m reading your comic, while here in Blagoveshchensk, Russia.
I shared it with my wife, this morning, and we both got a laugh.
Thanks for the fun: you are one of a kind.
Great work.
Thanks for reading Buni!
Hi Ryan,
I remember commenting on your blog years and years ago asking about a book. I am really happy – for you and me – to find out that it finally happened. Congrats and thanks a lot!
Best,
David
Update: Hi Ryan, I created the wikipedia page but currently fighting with the fine folks there about Buni’s notability and secondary sources to publish the page 🙂 will keep you posted if they finally approve
Thanks! Let me know how it goes!
Cool!!
Ryan, are you thinking about publishing another comic book?
Are you going to publish another comic book?
I would like to publish another Buni book, but as of now there are no plans for a book this year.
Why is buni’s mom in jail
I discovered Buni’s comic from Internazionale magazine in Italy and I love the unlucky pureness of Buni and his sad/funny world. Ciao from Italy
Just happened to see some people posted compilations of these comics on YouTube. I love the dark sense of humor here and how Buni is always happy but clueless on reality. Its definately something I am glad to have stumbled on.
The wordless nature is awesome. It means ANYONE can read it. All languages. Even people who can’t read.
What drawing software do you use to create your comics on? I am currently using Adobe Illustrator and it seems to take quite awhile for me finish something on that software. Also how long does it take you to create one comic strip?
I draw on Clip Studio Paint on a Wacom Mobile Studio Pro and sometimes on an iPad. Once I’ve drawn the comic, I format it and prepare it for my website or social media in Photoshop on a desktop Mac or laptop since it’s easier than on a tablet. I sketch my ideas on a piece of paper with a regular pencil. Good luck with your comics/illustrations!
Buni deserves happiness and peace, and it’s time he moved on from the girl who is uninterested in him.
I started reading your comics 2 months ago. I love them I relate to Buni alotbut I love your imagination you’re creative
