I read a study once that said that, among many bird species, the parents will often encourage (or force) their baby birds to leave the nest before the baby birds are willing to do so on their own. (Basically, it comes down to a battle of wills.)
Today’s cartoon is fairly accurate to that study.
Stop feeding them, and they will leave on their own.
