Technically? Candy is pretty much carbon, although less concentrated than coal. A bit of surplus hydrogen & oxygen, so you could get diamonds out of it, albeit smaller compared to input volume. Plus excess water, probably in the form of steam due to the heat of compression. Or hot tears of pain, given the nature of Buniverse.
But, then, you wouldn’t be able to eat peppermint candy for Christmas. Tough call.
Fun fact: heat diamonds up enough, in the presence of oxygen or similar oxidizing environment, and they will burn away to nothing exactly the same as coal. Just a little bit of CO2 and carbon monoxide to help global warming along. SCIENCE!!
