Hey, kids… let’s go around the neighborhood deliberately taking candy from as many strangers as possible in a celebration of our society’s archaic tradition of extortion backed up by the threat of petty vandalism while dressed up as various fantasy creatures from fairy tales!
I love this time of year, but genuinely hate all its holiday traditions. My favorite time of year, from a sociocultural perspective, is right AFTER the stupid holidays so that things get back to NORMAL for a few minutes before the NEXT stupid holiday.
Yeah, that’s right… I’m saying “bah, humbug” to Halloween. And Thanksgiving, (don’t tell ME when to feel gratitude…) and DEFINITELY to that repurposed, retread, age-old winter solstice festival that starts in JULY and runs through JANUARY, which is just ludicrous. (I also fairly despise all the other holidays… they just seem even more annoying around the winter solstice for some reason.)
On the other hand, maybe my antipathy comes from my being disconnected from the rhythms of agrarian life thanks in large part to internationalization that allows for the availability of most things year-round, shipped north from one hemisphere to the other…
Wow J. Craig, that’s one hell of an edge lord way of thinking… Sheesh, wouldn’t want to be as cool as you hating everything that others may enjoy just because you saw one comic dealing with a holiday when you could have just hit backspace or closed it. Nope can’t let others enjoy something for a change. By the way, the attitude you show in your comment is apathy, not antipathy. Apathy is when one has a lack of motivation, a suppression of emotion, and/or is in a state of indifference.
I don’t know what sort of childhood you had, but some of us enjoy the holidays. I’m not much for Xmas, but I celebrate Yule, also Samhain, and I don’t appreciate someone telling me that all the holidays can go take a hike… Some of us celebrate different cultures than “the norm” and not every holiday has been brutalized by commercialism. I grew up on a farm in a German/Irish household where one learned the importance of celebrating a harvest, or celebrating a holiday to either honor one’s ancestors or get one over the hump of winter madness.
Honestly though.. I’m too tired to let some apathy nutjob ruin my holiday, my morning, and an awesome comic.
@Too Fed… you have the same right to disagree with me that I have to disagree with you, and also everyone else, though I doubt I’m really alone in this attitude. In any case, thank you for respecting that.
Much respect also to Ryan Pagelow for creating this comic, and letting us do this.
J. Craig – I’m with you all the way. You can take xmas and the rest and flush ’em. What a waste of everyone’s time and money. People yell, “But, Jesus’ birthday”. Bull!!! He left us all the instructions He wanted us to follow. Funny how He left this one out. So, I’ll just follow Him and I’ll leave it out, too!
The early bird gets the worm, but it’s the second mouse that gets the cheese =)

I did not expect to get an unhinged screed against the holidays with my buni comic, but I’ll take it. Practically a 2 for one deal!
