This is actually perfect!!! I’m am avid chess player so this isn’t magic or something. Based on where Ryan set up the king, it seems to be 3 spaces down&2 spaces to the left of the pawn. Since pawns can only capture pieces that are in front of them(not counting empassount or however you spell it)&on squares directly diagonal to them, if the pawn theoretically stood on a knight’s head, then if the knight jumped to where it is on the last panel, assuning the king isn’t moved, the pawn could capture the king! The other pawns were cheering that one on! I wasn’t going to berate the comic if it didn’t vaguely folllow chess rules, I’m just SO IMPRESSED that there was this much thought put in this one comic! And if it was just luck, that’s very lucky. Ryan, I need to play chess with you sometime in the future!!!

Unless he isn’t actually on the depicted square but hovering over the diagonally adjacent square w.r.t. the king
