This is my first attempt at animating Buni. Enjoy.
Some of you may have recognized the comic that it’s based on which ran last month. I hope to continue experimenting with animation. But even the crude flip-book style I’m using takes several hours. I was only able to make this because I recently had to spend all day on jury duty and started playing around while I waited in the courthouse.
On a side note, I learned to play the ukulele for this short. Buni seems like a ukulele kind of guy, a slightly out-of-tune ukulele.
That’s great – if you look for Dilbert animated comics, he does the same (animating comic strips), and the result is quite nice 🙂
(mmm I wonder how will Bunny’s voice sound like…)
Very nice even if a bit crude, as you say.
By the way, may we know what are your drawing techniques? Everything on the computer or sketched, scanned and colorized on computer, then scanned?
Regards,
C
wow! amazing, congrats, Ryan!
I draw on smooth bristol paper using a blue pencil. Then I ink with a rapidograph pen. I scan it, then I finish by adding the borders and coloring in the black areas. After I make a black and white version for newspapers I make a color version for the Internet in Photoshop.
For the animation I only used art from the original comic strip, but extended some lines so it would fit the horizontal frame. I just used a series of images in a row like a flip-book to create the animation.
I love it!!!! Great job ryan 😉
Maybe you should seek advice from people at Cyanide & Happiness. They are doing quite a well job with converting comics into cartoons.
Great first effort. Bravo!
Didn’t expect it to, but the medium works pretty well for Buni! Prefer strips, but it’s a nice fresh change.
Good job!
Animation ain´t easy, moreover if you work alone.
Even when it is a little crude, as you say, you managed to make it look like real movement…
Keep going!
Well done! I hope to see a lot more Bunimation.
nice but you should hire the services or a professional animator 😀
Excellent Mr. Pagelow. Thanks for posting it.
Did you get picked for jury?
Fortunately I was not picked for jury, otherwise I would not have had the time to work on this while I waited in the courthouse.
That was amazing, I loved the sound effects and everything.
You must have worked really hard, good job!
AWESOME!!!
The cake is a lie !
Well, it’s not exactly animated, but for a first try it’s very good. I personally would not go with the idea of having the whole length of the film underlaid with music that has been fitted to the current emotion in the plot. This can come back and haunt you severely if it gets complicated or if the films get longer. But for a first try to have something in the sound channels, that’s fine. Ukulele Bunny is fitting, slightly off. Reminded me of Marilyn Monroe’s character “Sugar” in “Some like it hot”, which also was a bit off and had some bad luck, like Buni.
Its great! At the end it would be cool if there was a kind of sound of one of the ukelele strings breaking (sound effects of course) or a wrong note
Can you give to this mafia my adress ? Buni must be tired of all that body buried in his path and my garden needs to be dig up ! Hard labor but for a just cause…
